Riverside Motel

After a long day on the trail, a warm shower and decent bed were enough for one night, and I'm glad this place is here. It's basic and worn down, though, and I don't see why it should cost more than $50 a night except that it's the only option for a few miles. It was comfortable enough, but overpriced. If you're arriving in the evening with a reservation, contact them ahead of time and tell them when to expect you. Otherwise the staff may have gone to bed or left, and your calls might go unanswered. I arrived at 8pm, found nobody in the office, and had to wake the maintenance guy, or maybe the manager, who stays in Room 10, to get my key. He was really nice about it. A random guest outside told me where to find him, and without that tip I would've been stuck.

If you're looking for a place where you can wonder whether the sheets were ever washed, notice mystery stains on the carpet, find live and dead flies in the sink, and get only barely lukewarm water, this motel may be for you. I also saw bedbugs myself and ended up covered in large welts from the bites. Be warned. I'd strongly suggest staying somewhere else unless you like all that, or feel better off in a tent in the woods.

I could hear trucks going by on the road from the nearby truck stop, and the walls did little to block sound. I could even hear the neighbor watching commercials, so this isn't a good choice if you need quiet at night. Our room smelled a bit, and the cleanliness could've been better. The owner was nice and helpful, and the people around were communicative. It's acceptable for a night, though a bit expensive for what you get.

The person at the counter was friendly and talkative. The bathroom was clean, with towels and a large walk-in shower. The shower head could use an upgrade, but there was plenty of hot water. The room itself was very clean and warm, with a remote so I could adjust the heat from bed. There was also a nice desk and dresser, plus WiFi and cable TV. The TV should be updated to a flat screen. As a truck driver reviewing places all over, I found this one oddly both low-scored and expensive. I paid $90 because I had my dog. I called ahead, but the fridge wasn't plugged in, and there was no microwave in the room.
