The owner was friendly and helpful during my extended stay, and I saw no bugs at all. Weeks after leaving, I still have no sign that there were any. It’s a reasonable, comfortable, clean place, and I’ve paid more for worse. My room was well set up for a longer visit, with a firm king bed and fluffy pillows that made for restful nights. The carpet was clean and in good shape, the upholstery had no stains or wear, though some wood furniture showed wear. The tile around the bathroom was new, as were the sink and counter. WiFi was as good as anywhere, and the large TV had a good range of cable channels. I was a little unsure about staying at the Hometown Inn in Galion, Ohio, but was pleasantly surprised. It isn’t the Hilton, and taxes are lower here than in areas east and west along U.S. 30.

We had the smoking room, and the blanket had stains and burn holes. The bedding could use replacing, and the rooms could use fresh paint. The carpet also needs a deep clean. Still, it was decent overall, and I’d come back for another night away. I’m a huge bug-aphobe and always check every motel or hotel top to bottom before deciding to stay, no matter the price. This room was very clean and completely bug-free. It had a mini fridge, microwave, older box TV, coffee pot, bed, shower, and vanity area.

After the man had taken Mom’s card, he changed the weekly price to $510, even though he had already quoted her the same rates my sister heard on the phone: $75 a night or $310 for a week. Mom had gone to the motel later that day to get a room after asking about the rates again. My parents had been displaced by a house fire, and the Red Cross gave them a pay card for immediate needs, including lodging. He looked at the card machine and then said the higher price applied because it was a Red Cross card. Predatory and unconscionable. He clearly knows how much is loaded on the card and seems intent on taking nearly all of it from people who’ve just gone through a personal tragedy. I suggest going to the Sleep Inn instead. It may cost a little more, but it’s nicer and stands by its rates.

I don’t know what the place is like. I had a voucher for one night with my furkids so we wouldn’t have to sleep in the jeep for once, but they still wanted a pet fee and wouldn’t make an exception. I don’t have that money, so I guess that was that.

It is clean, I’ll give them that, and they’re strict about checkout at 11 a.m. The two really bad things are that visitors aren’t allowed at all, and they seem to choose what to charge each person instead of sticking to a rate. I know two people who checked into the same room, and there was definitely a big price difference. That’s not cool. They don’t know anyone’s situation, and charging people those prices for no reason could really hurt someone.
