Courtyard by Marriott Galveston Island

Our flights were delayed by storms, and since none were leaving, I called to say we'd have to stay in Houston until the next day. They kept repeating the cancellation policy and didn't seem to care. I was told there were no managers on duty that night or the next day. I've never known a Marriott to go days without supervisors. I understand the policy, but I don't understand being charged for an act of God. I'm a Bonvoy member and usually love Marriott, but I may go back to Hilton Honors for a while since they understand I can't control what God does. We haven't stayed here yet and never will. I also want to thank the Residence Inn at Houston West/Beltway 8 at Clay Road. We had to book last minute, and they were accommodating and pleasant, and made sure we were safe.

We barely had time to enjoy the hotel because our flight got in late, but we'd happily come back. It looks beautiful both inside and out, and the area felt safe enough for us to walk to nearby shops and restaurants. The pool looked great too, though it was too cool to use during our visit.

We'd stay again. The rooms were cute, neat, and clean, the food and coffee were good, and everyone was kind. The shower floor was the one real concern: I nearly slipped several times, even though I'm a fairly agile 30-year-old. Shower mats in every room, or at least the accessible rooms, would help. An older guest, someone with a disability, or even someone who's had too much to drink could easily have an accident.

The hotel was quiet, and we woke up to a lovely Coast view. Our room was clean and really nice, and the staff and management were friendly and dealt with everything well. They had emailed the day before to warn us about a hot water problem on a couple of floors, and they compensated us for the issue when we arrived. Booking online had been easy, and we still had a great night with no other problems. I'd stay here again if I return to Galveston.
