Every time we came or went, the hotel workers were welcoming, saying good morning or welcoming us back. The room itself was nice, though it had a strange smell that sometimes made it hard for me to breathe. It looked clean at first, but there was a lot of hair on the floor and the toilet wasn’t very clean. I always sanitize hotel rooms with Clorox before using them. My stay was good apart from the restaurant downstairs and Starbucks. The coffee had an off taste and wasn’t like Starbucks, so it felt like a waste of money when a real Starbucks is less than a mile away. I ordered pizza at the restaurant and waited 15 minutes before they told me the oven was broken. I don’t think they ever put my order in.

The location was nice, the amenities were good, and we enjoyed the restaurant food and coffee bar. Guests can use the bikes to ride around outside, which we really liked. The two regular outside valet men were kind and hospitable. Emily at the front desk was wonderful and VERY helpful. We checked in, then asked to move to an upper floor because of the noise and poor view. She was incredibly nice and accommodating, and we moved to the 6th floor, where the beach view was clearer. The room was clean, but cracked grout in the bathroom floor let water seep through and 'squish.' That could turn into a mold problem quickly. I wish there were signs by the elevators asking people to keep their voices down in the hallways. A group gathered there at 2 a.m., talking loudly and walking through the halls as if no one was asleep. This happened a few times late at night. One heads-up: parking is 20$ a night, and we didn’t know that at check-in. At checkout after 4 nights, it was an unhappy surprise. It is what it is, but 20$ a night is pretty steep and should really be disclosed at check-in.

We booked a premium room on the top floor for my husband’s birthday trip to Galveston, but one of the blackout blinds was missing when we arrived. I reported it to the front desk in person, and they said they’d call maintenance. Maintenance had no blinds to fix it, and the manager offered no solution. They could have put up a cover or something to block the light at night, but did NOTHING. We were told there were no other top-floor rooms and could only move down to a lower floor to get two queen beds instead of one king, so we stayed in the original room. Dinner at the hotel was terrible, too. The calamari was rubbery and the pizza was like cardboard. They don’t care about guests. Don’t stay there!

The pool area was extremely noisy, right beside the highway and restaurant parking lot where plenty of muscle cars and bikes were revving their engines. Then pop music was blasted through old, distorted speakers. Parking was over $20 a night, which is ridiculous. The place felt weathered, too. After checking in, I washed my hands and found the sink drain plugged. I turned on the TV to check some scores, but there were no live channels. There were crumbs in the corners and on the chair, yuck. Stay somewhere nicer, maybe a Motel 6, Super 8, or a campground!

We make a point of coming back whenever we can. There’s lots of space in the clean rooms, and the mirrors have great lighting. We spend most of our time by the pool and swim-up bar, where there are plenty of loungers and you can see the ocean from where you’re stretched out. Landry’s seafood is right next door, too, and it’s exceptional. Definitely recommend staying here in Galveston.
