Hyatt Select Galveston - Beachfront

Lying in bed and watching the waves through every window was really neat. We were told to ask for room 421 or 420. The hotel seemed to be updating many things, and although our balcony door was complicated to open, we were pleased with the comfort, cleanliness, location, friendly staff, and affordable price. Free parking and the indoor heated pool were extra perks. Breakfast was much better than at other hotels we’ve visited recently.

My main issue was the bed. I know people have different preferences for firmness, but I could feel the bedsprings, and the mattress pad didn’t solve that. The room itself was huge and very well kept, the hotel was clean and maintained, and the staff were friendly and helpful. It was still a great stay.

We felt safe, and the location and front desk service were good. Everything else was fine, so I’d consider staying again. But our main-floor room badly needs remodeling. It was very outdated and smelled like urine. They said they were remodeling the lobby area, and hopefully those rooms will get attention too.

Breakfast is still being served, but at another hotel down the street. There’s only one working elevator, at the back of the property. I understand that remodeling is necessary, but the hotel is still booking guests without telling them about it or offering refunds. Hiding the work from prospective guests and refusing refunds are both wrong. Whoever’s in charge is managing this remodel miserably. Quality Inn corporate, do you know what’s happening here?
