Ocean Inn

The spot on the coast was great and the price looked good, but the room was awful. It smelled of mold and mildew, and I had to open the door just to breathe. The TV stand had water damage and mold on it. The bed and towels were dirty and falling apart, and I found leaking vapes tucked under the mattress.

I left without staying. I was hoping the place might surprise me since the online reviews were mixed, but I wasn’t expecting Candlewood or Comfort Inn quality. Motel 6 had been basic but delightful, so I figured something around that level would be fine for my baby. I asked to see a room before booking, and the woman at the desk was strangely reluctant. First she said she didn’t know which room I’d reserve, so I told her the one I was considering. Then she argued with me about showing it. I still don’t know if the rooms are good or bad, but the interaction told me enough. I’ve worked for years as a hotel clerk, doing the same job she does. Where I worked, even in shadier areas, I was expected to show a room if asked, even when I was the only staff member. The desk here is in a separate locked section with a window partition, more security than I ever had. If I’d spoken to a guest the way she spoke to me, or let a possible guest leave, I’d have been fired. I only wanted basic customer service and a clean, basic place to sleep. Instead I got terrible service and no room. I’ve read bad reviews saying refunds aren’t available. Why is it unreasonable for someone who may pay to want to inspect the room first? If you’re going to argue with future guests about a service they intend to pay for, this isn’t the right line of work.

The woman who runs this place was so sweet and made sure we were comfortable. We weren’t ready to head home, so we agreed to stay one more night at a small discount. Thanks, Lady and ocean inn, for being so wonderful.

I’d read the reviews before arriving and they weren’t great, but for the price this motel was really good. The staff were lovely, the bed was clean and comfortable with a nice topper, and the fridge worked well. She had turned the AC on before we arrived, so the room was already cold. There was even a ceiling fan, which was a nice surprise. I’m very happy with the stay and will be back.
