Rodeway Inn

The room was shockingly filthy. I’d paid $309 to spend my birthday in Galveston with my boyfriend, and after a long day we just wanted to rest. Instead, the tub had black footprints and wet tissues in it, the toilet hadn’t been cleaned, and there weren’t any towels in the room. The office only had hand towels. The floor was gross, and the bed sheets had black marks and holes. We waited about 15 minutes at the office before the man there finally gave me a refund. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel. We may contact the health department. I’ve never stayed somewhere this disgusting.

The front desk person was really nice and mellow, and our room was already cool when we arrived. The mini fridge works well, too. One time the toilet wouldn’t flush, but maintenance came right away. The bed and sheets were clean with no stains, and we had extra towels. We got a great deal despite the other reviews, and I’m glad we gave it a try. We have three more days here and are happy with our stay. I’d come back.

We walked in, saw the condition of the room, and left right away to book somewhere else. The blankets had cigarette burns and holes, and both were shredded as if by cat claws. The pillows looked awful, there was drywall dust along the baseboards, and the shower safety bar was hanging off the wall. Nothing looked like the photos. We booked through Priceline, but they wouldn’t refund us. This place was dirty and disgusting.

We’d had a terrible day, nearly ending up in the ER, then drove seven hours to an Airbnb with no A/C. That’s how we wound up at the Roadway Inn, or “Roadkill,” as we called it. The receptionist was super friendly, and at least the shower had great pressure. The A/C worked, too, and our truck was still on its wheels the next morning, so those were two positives. The room was clearly unlike other hotels. A tree roach we named Mr. Benny greeted us, and after he died, Mr. Cornelius came along and dragged him into the wall. There were no baseboards anywhere, which we noticed partly because that’s where the roaches ran. The TV wouldn’t turn off for a while, but we eventually managed. We usually bring our own sheets and hadn’t this time. The sheets there had cigarette burns. This wasn’t the very worst place we’ve stayed, but it ranks high on the bad list. If you come, make sure your shots and life insurance are up to date. Otherwise, enjoy your stay.
