The mansion has a lot of charm, and we were excited to stay there, but our two-night visit was a rough start to our honeymoon. On the first night, a ceiling leak dripped onto the floor and kept us awake. Around 4 a.m., after trying to quiet it with towels, I contacted management. The woman I spoke with was nice and offered to comp our room, though she didn’t say whether she meant one night or the whole stay. We never received that compensation. The complimentary breakfast was good, but the dishes weren’t very clean. There was something floating in my milk, which they said was coffee grounds. We’d also paid in advance for a ride to the cruise dock, but they forgot us. To their credit, they scrambled to find us a ride and returned the $30 fee. While we were on the cruise, the owner texted to apologize and offered $60 back for the stay, much less than the room comp that had first been offered. That refund never arrived either. He also said he’d reimburse the Uber we needed to get back to our car afterward, but that didn’t happen. I wish them well, but I wouldn’t stay there again.

The beds were incredibly comfortable, the rooms were quiet, and we really enjoyed happy hour. The B&B is about three blocks from the Strand, near all kinds of places to shop, eat, have a drink, or just people-watch. A tour with Aaron was one of the highlights of our trip. He knew so much and tailored it to exactly what we were interested in. If we make it back to Galveston, this will be where we stay.

Our friends were staying overnight at this historic house before a cruise, just two blocks from our home, and invited us to their free beer and wine happy hour. We ordered pizza and visited in the sitting room, where we met at least three other couples heading out on the same cruise. Our friends said their room got too cold because its thermostat was in the next room, which was occupied. They had a cold night.

The breakfasts are incredible, and the daily happy hour is a nice way for guests to get to know each other. Mansion on 17th has old-world charm along with first-class amenities and service. It's conveniently located near the Strand, and we found the stay relaxing and comfortable.

This was our second stay before a cruise, and both times it’s been quiet, relaxing, and clean. The host is courteous and very professional. Cruise travelers can leave their cars parked longer as part of the stay, and there’s a ride to the port for a small fee. I can't say enough good things about this piece of history.
