TownePlace Suites by Marriott Galveston Island

It's a nice hotel and seems fairly new. It's a little far from the restaurants and Galveston seawall activity, but for our one night before a cruise it worked fine. I wanted my grandsons to have a little time in Galveston before sailing. Since it was rainy, the hotel was perfect for this occasion.

My friend and I stayed June 1-2, and woke with BED BUG BITES on our bodies. This wasn't even the room we were originally given. The first room wasn't ready when we arrived, so they moved us. We've tried several times to reach management, but were told they “aren't available” and to leave a message for Tara. She never got back to us. Please don't book here unless you're willing to risk waking up with bites and having to throw away some personal items.

Jennifer at the front desk made everything easy and was a huge help. Her customer service was excellent. We had an awesome room, a beautiful view, and a good vacation experience. My wife and 3 year old daughter had a blast, and I'd recommend staying here.

Check-in was quick and the rooms were clean, but they're very small. The advertised suites are just small hotel rooms with a kitchenette and no separate living space. The property is dark and minimally maintained, tucked behind the Courtyard, and neither one looks much like a typical Marriott. There's no restaurant or food on site, and nowhere within walking distance, so you need delivery or meals at the courtyard. The breakfast is heavy on carbs and probably the worst I've had at any Marriott brand. It's far from the cruise port, so not convenient for cruises. They offer a shuttle but charge $35 per person, while Uber to the port is $35 for 6 passengers. Food at the courtyard was OK, just OK. The biggest disappointment was having NO INTERNET, with no effort to provide the promised service, just “sorry the internet doesn't work.” On the plus side, the small workout room and self-serve laundry are open 24 hours. There's no business center.
