Super 8 by Wyndham Downtown Gatlinburg at Convention Center

The room was bigger than I expected and clean, and getting downtown was easy with a short walk or the trolley right outside every 10-15 minutes. They had cereal, eggs, sausage, and white bread at breakfast. I would've liked more fruit than apples and maybe some bagels, but they kindly made me decaf coffee. They were working on redoing the pool, so it wasn't available. I saw workers out there every day, so it wasn't just sitting empty. All in all, it was a good experience and the location was great.

When we came back hours later, check-in went smoothly and the gentleman was extremely nice. But the first desk interaction was rude. We arrived at 2:30 and were told there'd be a $15 charge to check in 30 minutes early. I declined and asked if my wife could at least use the bathroom, but the woman rudely said there were no bathrooms. We parked and walked to the strip instead. As soon as we entered the room, we saw three roaches in the bathroom. We won't stay here again.

We've always liked this as our go-to place in Gatlinburg. It allows dogs, is close to the strip, and there used to be a nice lady at the front desk. This visit was completely different, and we won't return. We booked a few days ahead and arrived at 11 PM as usual, but the door had a sign saying they were closed and giving an emergency number. Online, it says they're open 24 hours, and we've stayed enough times to know how things usually work. The next day, when we asked about the closing time, staff said it had always been that way. They asked to see our phones to check which numbers we'd called and were very rude. They couldn't help or accommodate us. The rooms are small and the air conditioning doesn't work well enough for that kind of customer service.

The staff were great and the room was clean, and for the price we had a good experience. The bathroom toilet was so small that for someone my size it felt like a child's training potty.
