Best Western Giddings Inn & Suites

We used to stay here several times, but after this nightmare of a stay, never again. The owners are unbelievably rude, and the recent reviews are right. Best Western should drop this place because it's giving the chain a terrible name.

The breakfast buffet was basic but decent, and the rooms were clean and very nice.

For what was probably the most expensive place in town, this was the worst. I've traveled a lot and stayed in seedy places, and that's fine when that's what I'm paying for, but this wasn't worth it. The room was horribly damp and smelled like the AC had been off for weeks. Even the sheets felt damp, and not like they'd just been cleaned and changed. When my card didn't work, I told the front desk my room number and got a replacement card without them asking questions or checking my ID. Apparently you can get a key to any room just by saying the number. Breakfast was frustrating. A woman blocked me from getting food and asked if I needed help while chatting with guests at another table. Then she ignored me for several minutes, so I went to McDs when it was clear she wasn't going to get me anything. The front desk staff are never actually at the desk, they're behind a partition. When I went to check out, the man behind it didn't come around until I picked up the service phone, and he appeared before it even rang once. There's more, but it's little stuff.

I booked two nights but left after one and drove home tired rather than stay again. I usually choose another brand, but tried Best Western because it was closer to where I was going. I'd rather drive farther, stay somewhere else, or sleep in my truck. I'd suggest the same to anyone reading this. The toilet kept running after a flush, and I had to lift the lid and reset it because the plunger was caught on the ball valve. The musty room and the need to call the front desk just to enter the hotel made me uneasy about my vehicle. Whataburger next door is open late, but cars were blasting music at 2 a.m. After I came back to my room, I found it had been serviced and my iPhone dongle was gone. Yikes.
