Best Western Space Age Lodge

We had a good one-night stay, with clean, roomy rooms, friendly and efficient staff, and a decent breakfast. I'd come back. The bathroom could use a little attention despite the remodel, like fresh caulk around the tub, and our noisy A/C and heater could have used an instruction sheet. The restaurant attached to the hotel doesn't serve beer or wine. There's an inexpensive Italian place across the street that does.

The space and alien theme is cute, but that was about the best part for us. The restaurant food was ordinary, not especially tasty, though not awful either. Our tub drained so slowly that showering was a pain. When we arrived, the room was freezing because the window had been left wide open. Closing it was easy enough, but it had let in four flies and a couple of mosquitoes or something similar. We couldn't kill any of them. Don't expect much when you stay here.

The Space Age decor is playful without feeling tacky, and the room was clean. I slept well on a bed that felt nicely in between too firm and too soft. My one gripe: the shower water was only lukewarm, and I like it hot.

The birds were the loudest thing around at dawn and dusk, and I loved hearing them. The motel cat adds to the friendly feel, too. We stayed in a double queen in late June 2025, and the large, clean, well-appointed room matched the photos, flying saucer and all, with decor that sticks to the theme. We went out of our way to stay here, and it was worth the trip. Historic Gila Bend is small, so dining choices are limited; the front desk filled us in, and you can't get lost there. It was worth the price and made a great memory for my wife, my great grandson, and me. If I get the chance, I'll be back.
