Rodeway Inn

I was working in town and needed a place for the weekend. I booked and paid online, so I didn’t see the motel until arrival, when it was too late to cancel. The first room was filthy, with suspicious stains on the sheets and furniture falling apart. The TV didn’t work, so I asked to switch rooms. The next one smelled awful, like curry. I wish I’d read the reviews before booking. This place should be shut down by the health authorities. It was the worst place I’ve ever slept. Stay away!

We paid between $70 and $80 for one night in room 138. The hotel was full, and other places nearby said they were full too, so there weren’t other room options. The receptionist was very pleasant and quickly brought us a scented candle and air freshener. The room itself was a long list of problems: ashtrays in a supposed non-smoking room, cigarette burns on the bathroom sink, sheets, and floor, plus a cigarette smell. The wall lights didn’t work, the carpet was badly stained and looked as if it had never been washed, and the uncovered box spring had stains running down its sides. There was also a hole in the bathroom wall. The internet was down, and we didn’t try the TV. I’ve stayed at other Roadway Inns before and none were this bad.

Room 110 was the most disgusting room I’ve ever seen. The air conditioner was growing mold, and cigarette burns were everywhere, even in the bathtub. The bedcover had holes, and the carpet was damp and hadn’t been vacuumed. When I told the manager he needed new housekeeping staff, he only smiled and nodded. I couldn’t tell whether he understood how filthy it was or just didn’t care. I wish I could add the photos I took.

The location is great, but the place is dirty, needs updating and care, and feels like somewhere for drug users to hang around. I’m disappointed Choice hotels lets a motel this disgusting use its name. They charge far too much for what you get. Breakfast was just bread and hard donut holes, and the wifi didn’t work. We tried several rooms, and each had problems: dirty carpets, broken furniture, blood on one bathroom wall, dirty shower curtains, and holes in the walls. One hole had a plastic bag stuck in it, another was covered with cardboard and duct tape. The sheets were thin and worn, and one door wouldn’t lock. This felt like a trap. I didn’t expect this kind of disgust from a Choice hotel in this area.
