Homewood Suites by Hilton-Hartford South-Glastonbury, CT

The location is a real plus, close to shops, restaurants, and places of worship. Staff were friendly, respectful, courteous, and helpful. The rooms seemed comfortable, but several details made them feel in need of steady maintenance. The dresser had a drawer that wouldn’t stay shut, an annoyance and possibly just wear and tear. We also found a sock that wasn’t ours while checking the room before leaving, so I can’t be completely sure it had been thoroughly cleaned. The TVs aren’t smart TVs, so there were no streaming services. It was hard to get the room to a comfortable temperature, perhaps because the systems, like those elsewhere, had been dealing with nonstop freezing weather. Breakfast was average, much like at other locations. We had a clogged toilet before even using it. Facilities came quickly when we called, but we noticed similar trouble in the public bathrooms, which makes me think it could be a toilet maintenance issue, though hopefully not a wider plumbing problem. We love the Hilton brand and think the company does a good job with its locations. Maintenance matters, and I hope this helps the hotel keep doing well in such a good spot.

Our first room smelled really bad, almost fishy. The staff and maintenance team were fantastic, though. They understood how hard it can be to travel late at night with young kids, and let me check the alternative room before we decided to switch so I could be sure it worked for the family. The key card swap was seamless, and after that we had a perfect stay.

The room was large and nice, with enough space for up to three people. It had everything I needed, including a good workstation, plenty of outlets, and a big TV. I was surprised to find a tub instead of a nice walk-in shower, but the full kitchen made up for it. I would have rated the stay a 4, but there were no arrival snacks like at other Hilton’s, and there’s no indoor pool. Service was disappointing this morning. Four staff members were focused on their phones, with no engagement or even a good morning. Two looked up only to speak Spanish to a coworker who was also on a phone. I didn’t expect that at all at Homewood Suite, where staff are usually very positive. At 8am, you’d think they could find a few things to do and engage with guests. I say good morning when we make eye contact, but those four didn’t make eye contact.

Milly C made check-in quick and easy, and knew about the amenities I needed while I was in town for the Chris Brown concert. I’m especially grateful for her hospitality and great service. My room was clean and comfortable, the bed was extremely comfortable, and I slept soundly after the event. The lobby, grounds, exterior, and lobby restroom were clean and well maintained too. I wish I could have stayed longer, but I was busy getting ready for the concert and didn’t have time to take photos. I did notice the hotel scenery, which was impressive. I’d rate the stay 10/10 and would definitely come back to the area and stay here again. Don’t let negative reviews put you off.
