The family suite has plenty of space and newer furniture, though the floors feel like they need a proper deep clean beyond a quick Swiffer. For the price, I found it clean enough. The white bedding also made me wish there were a dining table, and with two desks there was only one chair. The kitchenette was short on dishes too. I asked for more plates since there was just one, and they let me grab paper ones from the breakfast room. The bunk mattresses were actually more comfortable than the main bed, which felt almost as firm as the floor. I could feel every time my husband moved. Linens were clean, the bedding soft, and the towels fluffy enough, though small. Coffee was standard hotel coffee, just passable. Breakfast varies by day and is basic, but it does the job. Nothing was labeled for ingredients, so anyone with food allergies would have a hard time eating there. The pool and hot tub are clean and looked after. The pool has been too cold on both our winter visits, though going from it into the hot tub is kind of fun. The tub temperature can be finicky, often too hot or too cool, but the front desk can adjust it and it should be right in about an hour. We’ve stayed twice. The area feels safe and well lit, though the major freeway nearby brings some noise. The musty hallway smell we noticed before was gone this time, replaced by a soapy, fresh scent. It’s a friendly, clean budget hotel with a few nice extras, and a good fit if you need somewhere around here that doesn’t cost much. No BB either visit, and we checked all over.

The bathroom was the cleanest part of the room, though the shower frame had plenty of grimy hand marks. There wasn’t any soap or shampoo, luckily I bring my own. I also found long, dark, curly hairs on the comforter, which left me wondering whether the sheets had been cleaned. The seating was stained and dirty enough that I put a towel over the desk chair. The couch had dog fur, hair, and debris, and there was unknown stuff on the floor in several places, including chewed gum. I’d stayed here a few years ago and thought it was pleasant. This time the whole hotel felt dirty. The carpet looked like it hadn’t been vacuumed in months, and the elevator walls were smeared. At check-in I signed a no-pets and no-smoking-in-rooms agreement, but the second floor reeked of marijuana as soon as I stepped off the elevator. Thankfully, my room itself didn’t smell of smoke or marijuana. It’s sad to see management let the place fall this far. I wouldn’t call it a three-star hotel anymore, it feels closer to a dive. I won’t be back.

The rooms are spacious, and the staff are dressed appropriately and about as sweet as they come. It’s also affordable for this economy. My wife, child, and I had a great time here, and I hope you do too. There’s a gym and an on-site laundry room, plus a pool and Jacuzzi you can use year round. Free breakfast is served every morning. The location is handy for Historic Folsom, with light rail nearby if you like using public transportation. I’ve visited a lot of hotels in the Greater Sacramento Metropolitan Area, and not many compare to this one.

I didn’t feel comfortable settling in here for our two-night stay, and I wasn’t looking forward to spending the evenings in the room. It felt cold rather than cozy, and the bed wasn’t comfortable. The mattress was firm, a bit springy, and seemed low quality. I’ve found Holiday Inn Express beds affordable but consistently plush and comfortable, which made the difference stand out. The bedding was just a sheet and top blanket; towels were basic, and the pillows were fluffy but not very full. The room had newer laminate flooring, but the bathroom had old tile and a formica sink. There was only one small trash can for the whole place, none in the bathroom, and the toiletries were tiny, with soap but no body wash. The lobby was small and uninviting. When we drove up, the place looked subpar, and that impression held. We were on the third floor, where the low-quality windows were wide open when we checked in. They took some effort to close properly. It gave me the sense they cared more about the dollar than the customer's comfort.

The room was roomy and priced very reasonably, with a king bed, fridge, microwave, stovetop, and the usual amenities. Breakfast was a proper complimentary hot meal, not just coffee and packaged sweet rolls, and friendly staff were there to serve it. The team made the stay easy. Front desk staff were kind, quick, and efficient, and the cleaning crew were lovely and did a great job. The halls were clean, common-area tables and decor were dust free, and even the parking lot was free of litter. Online check-in and checkout were available, and checkout at 12 PM meant we didn’t feel rushed out. Our stay was perfect. Thank you to everyone at Hawthorn Suites. I’d absolutely stay again and recommend it to anyone looking for a hotel in the area.
