Days Inn Goodland

For a stop on the way to Denver, we just needed a bed for the night, and this inexpensive hotel in a good location worked well. The room was clean and comfortable, and the desk clerks were friendly and helpful. I can’t comment on the Fun Dome since we didn’t use it. The outside may give the wrong impression because they’re fixing the place up. There were a few minor maintenance issues, but nothing major, especially with renovations still underway. I recommend it and would stay again.

The breakfast was unbelievable. The attached restaurant made my two kids and me a fresh meal: two eggs, our choice of ham, bacon, or sausage, toast, pancakes, or biscuits and gravy, plus several beverage options. I was stunned by the value here. I stay in 30-40 motels and hotels a year, and at 47 I can safely say this OYO in Goodland was the best value I’ve ever had. Every employee we dealt with was friendly and kind. The location is handy to Walmart, restaurants, and gas stations. Rooms are about average for a budget hotel, and the beds were comfortable, but the amenities were awesome: a large, clean pool, hot tub, indoor slide, foosball, air hockey, a free arcade my kids loved, and two pool tables. If you’re staying anywhere in Western Kansas, go to this Goodland OYO. You won’t regret it!

The food was the best part, especially the nacho fries and pizza. The room was alright, with a cool view of the pool, though I wish the pool lights went off at night. They shone into the room even with the curtains closed. The pool was okay, but the hot tub felt more like a cold tub, colder than the pool, and the sauna didn’t work. The game room is a great idea, but about half the games were broken and it was really dark in there. Not a horrible hotel.

The free arcade room was a fun surprise, and they also have two pool tables, an indoor playground for kids, workout equipment, and what I think are two movies shown in the pool area. The hot tub and pool were open too. Walmart is next door, with plenty of fast food places within walking distance, and they offered continental breakfast. Our room was quiet, which we needed after a long time on the road, and several premium cable channels were included. The bathroom was fine, but be careful with the shower temperature. The water turned scalding hot a few times, possibly when someone in another room showered or flushed the toilet. That could be a concern, especially with kids. The price was perfect for our budget. The outside needs curb appeal, and the hallways could use brighter paint and lighting and replacement ceiling panels, but there’s lots of potential. Staff were friendly, and we hope the ongoing upgrades go well. I’d totally come back.
