The owner’s kindness made a frightening night so much easier. When tornado warnings came through during our drive, with heavy rain, fierce wind, lightning, and golf ball sized hail, my husband called around 2 AM to find somewhere safe. She checked that we were okay, helped us figure out the area, and even lowered the rate so we could get out of the storm. Though we arrived very late, she answered again and sent check-in details to our phones so we could get into the cabin quickly with our infant and kindergartner. We were headed to Fort Riley for my husband’s report-in after a 20-hour drive, and this was the closest place to stay. The cabin was cozy and spotless, with snacks, games, and a kitchen stocked with what we needed. The location is gorgeous, and you can tell a lot of care went into the cabins. I’d give this place 100 stars if I could. We’ll stay here whenever we’re in the area, and hope for nicer weather next time.

The cabin was clean, attractive, comfortable, and stocked with what we needed. It seems especially suited to families with older kids. There are stores nearby and mobile internet, which is handy, but the highway and railroad are right beside the property. Trucks and trains make a lot of noise and shake the cabin at night. A deep sleeper may be fine, though I doubt a light sleeper will get much rest. With the highway so close, I also wouldn’t want young children or pets playing outside.

We were in town to dive at Mermet Springs, and the family cottage worked perfectly for us. Fern Clyffe Park was only a few minutes away by car, with a walking trail across the street, and we had a great time exploring. The cottage was well equipped, and being able to park right beside the house was handy. Service was great and coming and going was easy. Recommend!

Karla was a big help, with suggestions for meals and things to see nearby. The cabins are pleasant, and the location is convenient, especially if you want time outdoors and then a steak dinner in town for an anniversary. Parking can be a bit awkward if you’re disabled, though we managed to get close enough to our unit to unload. I’d recommend it mainly for the area and for Karla.

Two full bathrooms and a full size kitchen made this a comfortable stay, and the remodeled cabins feel new, clean, and modern. The furnished patio has a gas grill and fire pit. The owner greeted us warmly and left snacks, muffins, coffee, and tea. Southern hospitality all around. The lodge sits in the heart of Shawnee, close to the lake and wine trails, and the price felt very reasonable. There’s so much to do nearby. I highly recommend it and will definitely stay again.
