Best Western Plus Graham Inn

The staff were polite and friendly, but the roach problem made this stay miserable. I was there for three nights. The sheets and bathroom looked clean at first, then a cockroach ran across the desk while I was sitting there. Over the next two days I spotted several more on my chair, beneath the desk, and on the walls. There was also a large dead roach under the window that clearly hadn’t been removed before I checked in. I told the front desk and specifically asked for the room to be cleaned, but nothing happened. I was relieved to leave. Other guests later told me they’d seen roaches too. One woman said the same thing happened to her last year and she accidentally carried one home in her suitcase. The cleanliness issue is serious, and I’ll need another place to stay when I return to the area next year.

Nicole and Angel were very nice when I checked in, but the room was frustrating from the start. I had no other option because I was working out of town and everything else was sold out. There was no shower curtain, so I went to the desk and the man said he’d get one. For more than $165 a night, I didn’t expect to have to put it up myself. The bathroom also hadn’t been cleaned properly, with hair still around, and the drain was clogged. I had to shower with water up over my ankles both nights. I found a review from a woman who had the same problem three years ago.

There were rust stains and mold in the bathtub, too. The coffee in the morning was undrinkable. I’m not sure, but the Nescafé machine seemed to put out a little black liquid and then mostly hot water. The big issue was the overpowering cigarette smoke in the third-floor hallway as soon as we stepped off the elevator. We’ve stayed at the Best Western Graham many times before and things were fine, so this was a real disappointment. The desk clerk said two rooms on that floor allow smoking, but the odor spread through the whole hallway. I travel often and rarely encounter hotels that still allow smoking indoors.

The staff were hospitable and met our needs. It was easy to get around from here, and everything else suited us well. They said the bathrooms are being updated, though in their current condition they’re fair for the building’s age.
