Holiday Inn Express & Suites Grand Forks

The bathroom was disgusting. It hadn’t been cleaned after the previous guest, and what looked like vomit was around the toilet and on the shower door. Our bed wasn’t made, and clean towels had just been thrown into the bathroom. The hotel was also incredibly noisy, with banging and stomping at all hours, so it was hard to relax. The nighttime front desk worker was rude and disrespectful to guests and their children, had no professionalism, and seemed poorly dressed for the job. I would never recommend this place. The bathroom cleanliness was bad enough, but the night staff were the worst I’ve encountered. It was an extremely unfortunate stay. I’ve stayed at other Holiday Inn Express locations and always had a good experience.

The shower pressure was really good, but nearly every towel had long dirty marks along the edge, like it had been rubbed against something filthy. The bed was worse: the comforter looked a bit dirty, and when I pulled it back, there was hair across the sheets and stains on some pillows. Breakfast was the worst I’ve had in a long time. Apple juice was the only thing that appealed to me. The fruit was rotten, cereal stale, muffins hard and dry, the pancake machine was out of order, and there were no cinnamon rolls. Other guests warned me the eggs and meat were cold and tasted strange. The facility itself was nice, but these problems made me unsure I’d stay again. I usually have good luck at HIE&S, so this was my worst experience there, even with its 4.5 rating at the time I’m writing.

Holiday Inn Express prices keep going up while the quality slips. The rooms are just okay, the common areas look worn, and breakfast needs an update. It feels like the other Holiday Inn Express locations these days.

The breakfast buffet was good, but the room felt damp the whole time we were there. On our first night, the carpet by the air conditioner was wet, so I called it in to make sure we wouldn’t be charged for it. The bathroom fan didn’t work either. We stayed two nights.
