I’ll never stay at a Howard Johnson again. The pool was green and unusable, and the service was horrendous. I called directly to reserve, but they couldn’t give me a receipt when I checked out. There were no towels in the bathroom, though they gave us some when we went downstairs. Two older women told us our room was downstairs, then gave us an upstairs room. The linens were clean and there were no bugs, but the room didn’t cool down until after midnight. The pictures must be old.
The customer service was good, but the rooms cost too much for the condition they were in. We left to find different accommodations because of bed bugs. I wasted 81 dollars. Lesson learned, I’ll stay with BW suites.
Danny at the front was helpful, and that was the one bright spot. I picked this hotel for the King Bed suite with a hot tub, but neither the tub nor shower had hot water. The hot tub faucet leaked onto the floor and got our things wet. The so-called King bed was just a king mattress on a raised frame with no box springs, and it was very uncomfortable. My wife and I managed to sleep only because we felt sick and needed NyQuil. The TV didn’t work, though that wasn’t why we were there. We’d planned a romantic weekend, but the room ended up being somewhere to leave our things until we went home. If we stay overnight in Dallas again, we won’t choose this hotel.
I flew into Texas for work on Thursday, August 7th, six months pregnant and in pain from pregnancy issues, but I still had to handle a work emergency. Around 3 or 4 pm, a man who said his name was Harry was abrupt and rude from the start. There was no friendly greeting or customer service. My phone, which held my reservation details, was dead. I’d booked and paid for the room hours earlier, but he snapped that I couldn’t use the plug without asking permission and spoke to me like a child. Then he demanded the reservation from my dead phone. His behavior kept going, and I hope the hotel reviews the video and improves how guests are treated. Everyone coming into the lobby deserves respect and hospitality. The property looked nothing like the online pictures and was in very poor condition. The pool had brown water and floating trash in August, roaches were all over the property, and there were ants in my bedsheets. My tub had a large brown spot and a soap wrapper in the drain. There were brown marks on the room walls, and the area near the filthy blow dryer was dirty too. Breakfast wasn’t kept safely, either. Around 6 in the morning, I was the only one there. Milk and butter were sitting unrefrigerated on the counter, there was no juice, and there was no glass plate in the microwave. There was no hot water for the tea bags, and the only fruit was apples that looked bad. I thought Howard Johnson was supposed to be a good hotel chain, but I’ve learned most motels are cleaner. I’ll never return and highly recommend avoiding this hotel.
It may look like a real Howard Johnson Hotel from outside, but it doesn’t have the pride I remember from back in the day. I wouldn’t spend my money there, or feel that 99 a night was worth it.
