Amway Grand Plaza, Curio Collection by Hilton

The location worked well for the event we attended in the building, especially in the middle of winter. The connected Skywalk made it easy to get around town, and there were plenty of food options inside as well as beautiful seating areas throughout. We chose a tower view, and looking out over the river lights at night was lovely. The room was just big enough for two, though not especially large. The bathroom felt tight, and the room was quite dry and dusty. We tried taking the stairs once and found there was no way out, so we had to continue all the way down to the basement service quarters. It was awkward and strange, and even security asked how we'd gotten there. I guess don't use the stairs. 😬

The room was fine, though nothing special. Our king room was on the small side but functional, and we weren't high enough up for a great view. The staff were the real standout: front desk, valet, and housekeeping were all polite, professional, and helpful. The location is great, with good shops and restaurants in or near the hotel. We enjoyed The Kitchen.

We're local, and this was our first overnight stay at The Amway. Even during one of the busiest weekends of the year, every staff member we met was friendly and helpful, making the experience a 5/5. Connor and Tayesha were our MVPs and handled the crowds really well. Our Tower rooms were very clean and had beautiful city views. We'd definitely recommend staying here. Thanks for a great visit!

Expect crowds, especially at peak hours when parking can be difficult, even with valet. Plan ahead when you need your car back. The building is old, so quality can be hit and miss, including in the lower-floor Tower rooms. It's a fun place to stay while enjoying downtown Grand Rapids, Broadway, or other shows at DeVos. Try for a higher floor and a river view, but don't overpay for an upgrade. The speakeasy is fun, though it doesn't feel much like a speakeasy.
