Chestertown, with its history, shops, and restaurants, is about 15 minutes away. Back at the manor, there’s a library full of books and games, plus a dining room where an award-winning chef serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The lawn has outdoor games, a hammock, a fire pit, chairs, and a private beach, which was a great spot for sunset. There’s also a snack area with coffee, treats, chocolate, and wine available around the clock. I spent Sunday night at Great Oak Manor, a 1940 manor on the bay about an hour and a half from Washington, D.C. It has the grand, Gatsby-like feel of an old mansion. I stayed in the second-floor Marmaduke room, with a water view. It was spacious, had a comfortable king bed, lots of storage, strong WiFi, plenty of outlets, an iron, robes, and toiletries including mouthwash. Natural light came in during the day, and the blinds kept it dark at night. Check-in was easy. I parked at the entrance, checked in with staff, and they moved my car to the lot. I got an old-fashioned room key and a card for the wine area, which had several red and white options. The staff I met were friendly and professional, and remembered my name and story. I felt like family.

The setting is so peaceful, with birds to watch and waves and leaves rustling if you just want to sit and listen. It’s a lovely place to unwind and let your mind wander. They seem to think ahead about the little things, from snacks to sunscreen and bug spray. The staff were all friendly and helpful, and the service was excellent. I loved the place and wish I’d had more time there. Meals were great too, with good choices for dinner, lunch, and breakfast.

I’ve been back to The Great Oak Manor several times, and each visit has left me relaxed and refreshed. The staff are attentive and welcoming from the moment you arrive, and it quickly feels like home. The meals are carefully put together, and I’ve never had an average one. The place has a lovely mix of comfort, luxury, and charm. I’d definitely recommend trying it.

My husband and I had such a nice weekend here while our friends renewed their vows. I was impressed by how attentive they were to the guests. If you’re looking for an elegant, classy venue, I’d recommend it.

The food was a highlight, especially dinner at the Manor. Everything tasted fresh and was beautifully presented, and both breakfasts we had there were fresh and wonderful too. We also spent time by the fire pits taking in the grounds and the sunsets and sunrises, and went down to the private beach. It’s a remarkable spot. My wife and I came for a babymoon and had the best extended vacation. Brielle and Calin greeted us on the first evening and were a fantastic team, ready to take care of even our most lavish requests. They were kind and thoughtful throughout, keeping an eye out for anything we might need from check-in to checkout. The house is exquisite, the rooms are spacious and lavish, and the grounds are kept up beautifully. We had a wonderful stay and will be back.
