Sunny Side Cottages

We slept well, woke up to beautiful sunrises, and felt right at home during our trip. Cottage 6 gave our family plenty of space to spend time together without feeling crowded, and the kitchen had what we needed to cook a big fish dinner. Our two dogs loved running on the beach. In November there weren't many sunbathers, so they could play freely. Harrisville, the AuSable River, and public land for hunting and fishing are all nearby.

Cottage 9 had a spacious layout and plenty of amenities, so hosting dinner for my big Northern Michigan family was easy. It'll be my home away from home whenever I visit again.

The beach was bigger and cleaner than I expected, and the family had a great time. We went after Labor Day, when the weather was good and there were no crowds. Cabin 6 worked well with a toddler and a baby: the upstairs rooms had an extra door at the top of the stairs, which kept the hall dark for naps and early bedtimes. The showers had shampoo, conditioner, and soap, and the kitchen had all the dishes we needed plus a coffee maker. Sunnyside can provide a high chair if you ask. The location felt private and secluded, though town was only 10-15 minutes away. Next time we'll try cabins 1-3 so we're right on the sand. We'll definitely be back.

I was excited about this property and drove almost four hours to stay here, so it was a real disappointment. The cabins don't have AC, which should be made much clearer, especially for people with medical conditions or sensitivities. I'm pregnant and have one such condition, and the heat was miserable. We drove over an hour round trip to the nearest department store to buy extra fans, then I spent a lot of time sitting in the car to get comfortable. At $320 a night, it didn't feel worth it. A large part of the price was cleaning fees, but we still had to wash dishes, sweep, and take trash to the shared dumpster before the 10 am checkout. Other guests kept using the beach in front of our cabin, which was much smaller than it looked. We went to the public beach five minutes south instead, and it was much cleaner. The whole stay was more of a headache than I expected.
