Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham Greensboro

The hotel is kept up to date and well cared for, and the rooms are modern, clean, and reasonably priced. Staff were friendly and polite. There was an odd smell through the building, like you sometimes find in older hotels. It wasn’t especially bad, just strange.

We had a nice, quiet stay, and the location suited our needs. The room was satisfactory and the hotel was clean. The larger suite we booked wasn’t available when we arrived; the manager put us in two rooms for the same price we’d paid for the suite. I’d have preferred to be told in advance and given the choice to cancel. One shower’s plumbing needs attention. The shower worked, but the tub spigot could be pulled away from the wall and should be repaired.

Check-in and checkout were great, and the concierge was wonderful. The room itself was good, with a full-size fridge, dishwasher, dishes, microwave, and cooktop. The bed was comfy and the shower was nice. But our room was right beside the elevator pulley, which was very loud whenever the elevator moved. The walls were thin too, so we could hear most things happening in the hallway. It was a nice stay, though overpriced.

The staff are what make this hotel great, especially the front desk attendant. Our top-floor room was quiet and clean, and the small kitchen meant we had room for leftovers and utensils whenever we needed them. Breakfast was the usual eggs, bacon, waffles, cereal, and so on. The room needs updating, though. Our door was hard to open and close, the bathroom light took a couple of seconds to come on each time, and the Dish network TV lost reception with the slightest gust of wind. Both nights we were there it stormed, so we had little TV most of the time. None of that would stop me from returning because the staff were so wonderful. I’d take kind people and clean rooms over updated amenities any day.
