Best Western Plus Night Watchman Inn & Suites

We picked this place mainly for the indoor pool and hot tub, and both were a letdown. The pool water was so cold that I couldn't keep swimming for even a minute, and the hot tub jets barely had any force. Breakfast was another disappointment. The scrambled eggs looked okay on top, but underneath they were mostly an unappetizing gray-green, so I stuck with cereal instead of trusting the hot food. Google's AI said the eggs were still safe to eat, but I didn't want to risk it. The room itself was clean, roomy, and had plenty of bathroom counter space. If a nice room is all you're after, this hotel can provide that. For us, the pool, hot tub, and breakfast weren't worth what we paid.

The staff seemed friendly, and breakfast was really nice. The king bed was the best part of the room. The AC didn't seem to work very well, though, and the shower head was awful. The pool looked nice, but I didn't swim.

After driving most of the morning and afternoon, I arrived tired. I'd booked the room back in April, but the total didn't match my confirmation because the hotel had upgraded me without telling me and charged me more. I went straight back to the desk with my email. The clerk was in the lounge instead of behind the desk, which struck me as tacky, though she checked me in quickly. She called a manager and kept saying they couldn't give me an upgrade at that price. Apparently, on July 18, the hotel upgraded my booking without my knowledge and gave my room to someone else. King rooms were sold out, so I was downgraded to a two-queen room at a lower price. That part would've been fine, but the room was awful. The walls were peeling, the shower was dirty, and the bathroom was locked so I couldn't get in. The remote barely worked, there were no bedside outlets, and the shower head was dirty and didn't work well. There were no towels at the pool, the pool ceiling was damaged, and the hot tub made a strange noise. The bed was somewhat comfortable, which was the one decent thing. When I got the manager's card and said I'd contact them, the clerk suddenly became friendly and said she was fixing things. I felt they were downgrading me without admitting their mistake or making it right, or had upgraded me to get more money. Either way, it felt shady. Even at $152, the room and location weren't worth it. This experience has put me off staying here again, or at any Best Western. I'll be contacting the company and the manager.

We use this inn when we travel and have stayed a few times. It's still a good place, though it's looking more dated, and I think the ownership may have changed. The breakfast was the one letdown; it wasn't as good as I'd hoped.
