The closed pool left little to do at the hotel, and there wasn’t much nearby either. The walls are thin, so noise from rooms next door and upstairs carries. In the morning, staff vacuumed the hallway outside guest rooms before checkout time. The room had plenty of problems: the toilet shifted when I sat down, and the heater started grinding and clicking if left on for long, so I turned it off rather than listen to it all night. Bathroom ceiling tiles were stained and in rough shape, and the bath mat had a spot on it. The windows were very dirty, as were the breakfast nook tables. Breakfast was a strange spread of powdered-sugar mini donuts, mini muffins in the bakery cases, cold eggs, and decent sausage links. After I reported the hotel to Wyndham, management kept emailing me. I expect they’ll also respond angrily to this Google review. It’s hard to believe Wyndham allows this kind of management under its name. AmericInn used to feel like a comfortable, dependable mid-priced motel chain. Sadly, I no longer trust AmericInn or Wyndham to provide decent accommodations.

I used to work in housekeeping, so I know what a room should look like. Running a finger along the shower tile and ledge turned up a gross amount of grime. There was thick dust behind the nightstand, and the windowsill and top of the air conditioner were filthy too. You could really feel how dirty the room was. The bathtub drain wouldn’t stay closed, so the bath I’d been looking forward to, with hot water and Epsom salt, was a letdown. My stay at AmericInn By Wyndham in Grundy, Cener, IA was a big disappointment, especially for the price. I felt we should have gotten a full refund.

I was there for a funeral, and the hotel was quiet, with only about three people around. The man at the desk was very quiet too, though I have nothing against him. The bed was rock hard, which made the stay mediocre.

Breakfast was great, but the older hotel felt overpriced for the quality. My room had a stain on the top comforter and could have been cleaner. It’s an okay place for one night when all you need is somewhere to sleep.

The staff were friendly and more than helpful at check-in and during breakfast. We stayed in the handicap-accessible room, 105, which I liked for its spot near the entrance. The room seemed clean except for the bathroom, where there was dirt under the sink and the shower needed repairs. The bathroom door wouldn’t shut because it was misaligned.
