Holiday Inn Express & Suites Gunnison by IHG

There were lots of outlets, the rooms were clean, and the bed was comfortable. Breakfast was very good. The fridge had been turned off, so my food spoiled. The shower dispenser had a pumped Dove lotion-like product that didn’t seem like soap and didn’t work well. The sink soap dispenser was placed inconveniently.

The location is great and the rooms were otherwise okay, but the service was absolutely horrendous. We reported the broken bed three times. When we first mentioned it on arrival, we were asked if we’d broken it. We said no and explained that the sharp metal sticking out had injured me, but nobody even apologized. They said they’d send maintenance, but no one came. We had to make two more trips to the office before they finally offered another room, apparently at the expense of another guest. No apology and no customer service at all. The broken bed left me with a scar on my foot. Maybe years from now, I’ll be reminded of this trip whenever I see it.

The breakfast had more choices than I expected, and my room was clean. The deep tub was awkward to climb in and out of, and the AC never got very cold. Still, a decent stay for an IHG property.

We ended up here for a couple of nights after a bad room experience at the Three Seasons Condo in Crested Butte. We booked at the last minute in Jan 2025, and I’d stay here again next time I’m around Gunnison or Crested Butte. The place felt safe, and parking was plentiful, even for an RV. We weren’t concerned about leaving our things in the truck. The entry was open, clean, and free of odd smells. Friendly staff showed us the room before we booked, and it was clean and odor-free. Even though the hotel allows pets, neither the room nor the hallways had a strong pet smell or that heavy carpet-cleaner scent I’ve noticed at other places. Breakfast was a step up from the usual for this chain. The dining area was clean, and staff were attentive, so we preferred eating there to going into town. There’s a pool, but we didn’t use it, so I can’t comment on it.
