Janus and Ela are such down-to-earth people, the kind you’d be glad to have as neighbors. Gustavus would be poorer without them. I can see why so many people recommend Wild Alaska Inn. They arranged our Glacier Bay tour and helped with local transport, including bikes, making it easy to explore Gustavus and Glacier Bay. The B&B is excellent, and the food was outstanding, especially dinner. The other guests were bright and enjoyable too. Janus has a gift for photography, sailing, construction engineering, and navigation with the latest internet tools. They’re wonderful hosts.

Wild Alaska Inn sits in beautiful, wild scenery with lots of wildlife around, and the owners’ story is inspiring. They made the kind of impression that stays with you on an Alaska trip. They rely a lot on green energy, with solar panels and electric cars for getting guests around. They accommodated our request for vegan meals, and I’m sure they could handle other dietary needs, such as gluten-free or vegetarian food. The meals were tasty and made with local produce. I can honestly recommend the inn, and hope to return.

The bikes made it easy to get around from Wild Alaska Inn. We used them a lot, including trips downtown, to hiking trails, and to Glacier Bay National Park. Our room was clean and nice, Ela and Jan were warm and hospitable, and the food was wonderful, especially dinner.

Ela and her family made things easy, from picking us up and dropping us off at the airport to sharing recommendations. Ela made a lovely breakfast and even called Todd to arrange our whale tours with the Taz. I highly recommend it for seeing humpback whales up close. We also used the free bikes to ride to Glacier Bay, about 30-40 minutes, and Gustavus, around 15 minutes. Rooms were clean and beds comfortable. Ask Ela about her epic sailing adventures, building her house, and the whale skeleton in glacier bay. It’s a great spot in Gustavus.

They have plenty of local information, make great breakfasts, and help you arrange whatever access you need around the area.
