Half Moon Bay Lodge

We had a lovely winter Saturday at the Half Moon Bay Lodge, especially sitting by the outdoor fire table. Our retreat suite had a fireplace, and they provided wood that was easy to light. The planning was well coordinated by the event manager, and everyone working the event was attentive, friendly, and flexible. We also liked the meeting suite, the reasonable price, the beautiful rooms, and the sunset views. A few of us took time to relax in the pool and hot tub. It was a spectacular weekend.

Breakfast being included made for a really relaxed morning on the property, and there are plenty of open spots for dogs to take potty breaks or socialize with other dogs. We stay here often and brought our fur baby Dino for the first time this visit. The room was clean, and the staff were exceptional. We love that it's dog friendly and will definitely be back soon.

The breakfast is simple but well done, and the fireside room and grounds are beautiful. Staff were friendly, the hot tub was clean, and the pool was comfortably heated. The hotel feels well maintained and peaceful, set just off the highway without any road noise reaching us. Prices are reasonable, especially compared with what we paid for a Holiday Inn in the city, with thin walls and a terrible breakfast. We'll stay here again for medical appointments and probably nowhere else. Joe’s Diner right in front is a great find, too, with delicious food.

We ended up with a standard ground-floor room, though we had booked the “Standard Suite, 1 Queen Bed, Balcony, Golf View.” It had no balcony or golf course view. When we raised it, Sarah said the hotel was full and nothing could be done, then claimed we “DID NOT pay extra” for those features. We showed her the Expedia listing, where our booking was clearly a higher-priced category than a standard room, but the staff were dismissive and offered no apology or compensation. Expedia contacted the manager, and the hotel still wouldn't take responsibility. Expedia eventually handled the issue and compensated us. We only wanted the mistake acknowledged and perhaps a small discount, but paid too much for a standard room. We'd arrived early to leave our bags and explore, then got a message a few hours later that the room was ready. The property is very dated for the premium price: old furniture and decor, noise from upstairs rooms, ants in the bathtub, poor lighting, and no thermostat, just loud ceiling fans. I wouldn't recommend staying here.
