HOLIDAY INN EXP STES HAMBURG by IHG

We paid $348 for one night at the Holiday Inn Express in Hamburg, NY, and the value just wasn't there. The indoor pool was a major reason we picked this three-star property, but on arrival we were told it was closed for unspecified “technical problems.” Guests should be able to expect advertised amenities to be available. The room was clean overall, but worn: the shower curtain rod had a sloppy patch where it had apparently been ripped down before, and the loose sink faucet felt ready to fall apart. The bedding made for a poor night's sleep. The high memory foam mattress was difficult to climb onto, especially for shorter people, and neither it nor the pillows was comfortable. Breakfast had a decent range on paper: cereal, fresh fruit, juice, milk, premade cheese omelettes, bagel slices covered in cheese and egg, sausage gravy, turkey sausage patties, biscuits, breads and bagels for toasting, cinnamon rolls, and a self-serve pancake station. But most of it tasted frozen or prepackaged and reheated, with little freshness or flavor. For the price, the tired room, uncomfortable bed, mediocre breakfast, and closed pool were too many problems. I can't recommend this Holiday Inn Express. IHG should offer some kind of compensation or refund for missing advertised features. We won't be back.

I stopped here while traveling for the holidays. The staff were extremely kind and welcoming, and the rooms were clean, comfortable, and well maintained. It's not high-end, but the cost, service, and rooms make it a worthwhile choice if you need a place in the area. I'll stop again when I'm passing through, if I need to.

A warm bowl of chicken noodle soup was the best part of my stay. This Holiday Inn Express is the best I've ever visited, and I've spent well over 50 nights a year at HIEs for 25 years, in at least 100 locations around the country. If I'm ever anywhere near this place again, I wouldn't consider another hotel unless this one was fully booked.

We were excited to find a pet-friendly hotel while traveling with our Yorkie, and it was a huge plus. He even got an adorable VIP (Very Important Pet) gift bag. Breakfast was great, with eggs, omelettes, cereal, make-your-own pancakes, a bagel bar, biscuits and gravy, and more. Definitely recommend it, 10/10!
