The refund still wasn’t resolved after two weeks. I know these can take 5-7 business days, so I gave it time. I emailed the general manager, got no answer, then called with no luck. After I emailed again, he replied that he’d seen the refund being processed and told me to contact booking.com. His name is Brian Moore. I politely asked for the date he’d started it so I could pass that along to booking.com. His response was rude: he said booking.com would see it, that emailing them only made me wait longer, and that I had to wait their 5-10 business days. A simple date or a more courteous reply would have done. He’d been rude from the first email. We’d shortened our stay, so booking.com told us to speak with the hotel desk. The woman working that night was nice and said to ask for a refund when checking out in the morning. The next morning, a young woman called the manager, who said he’d refund us and check us out, so we thought it was settled. That same day, an employee and a guest got into an argument that turned into a physical fight, starting inside and ending outside. The guest said she was pregnant, but nobody listened; she told another employee she’d been attacked and that employee said she doubted it. Very unprofessional. Don’t stay here if you don’t want staff putting hands on you or to sleep somewhere dirty!

The walls had holes, and there were bodily fluids on the beds and carpet. It was disgusting, a total dump. I checked out and couldn’t stay at all, and I’m still trying to get a refund. If I could give zero stars, I would. Do NOT stay here.

I remember enjoying this place back in the aughts, but the rooms still have the same furniture and everything looks worn and shabby. It was clean, though the smell was overpowering, like a chemical factory. I thought it came from the indoor pool, but once I lay on the sheets I could smell it even more and started itching. I woke up with what looked like a horrible sunburn anywhere my skin had touched the sheets. After a shower and Benadryl, it faded into a rash that lasted for days. I’m not a sensitive person.

The location worked well for us, with easy access to restaurants, the highway, and public transportation. Hamden Plaza is close by, so it’s a good spot if you’re extending your stay. The gym and pool were reasonable, like a local fitness room, and the staff were kind and friendly. Housekeeping happens only when guests request it. That might sound cold at first, but it turned out to be very efficient. Breakfast was just the usual continental spread, nothing special. Wi-Fi is free and doesn’t need a password. No hassle, and a nice escape from a noisy day.
