Magnuson Hotel Hammond

The staff were polite and courteous, but it didn’t make up for the condition of the hotel. We changed rooms twice: the first had a hole in the wall that staff said they didn’t know about, and after the second move we found roaches in the bathroom. The beds in our first room were full of some kind of debris and felt crunchy. I changed the sheets myself, but the replacements had the same problem. The keys for that room didn’t work at first, then the second key opened the first room. Breakfast was laughable, everything was cold, two of the three drink machines didn’t work, and the one that did served watery drinks. We stayed only one night and cut the trip short. I was so upset because my child had been excited about the pool. The front desk said a manager would call, but nobody did. I called myself, and the manager said she’d call back, but never did. I hate to criticize the only place for miles with room for a small get-together, but if you can go elsewhere, do it. This place needs a real overhaul.

I asked for an extra pillow while traveling with family, and staff brought it up within minutes. That quick help made our stay more comfortable. They seemed well coordinated.

As a retired hospitality professional, I was shocked by the poor service at Hammond Indiana Days Inn & Suites. I checked in with my emotional support dog, and the desk agent claimed I hadn’t requested pet accommodations, even though my reservation clearly noted that and my request for a handicap room. The first room was dirty, with a grimy floor, tub, and sink, and it smelled of urine. When I asked to move, I was offered only rooms designated for pet owners that weren’t handicap accessible, despite having paid the regular rate. I have a Chihuahua, so that seemed unnecessary. After I was moved, I found bugs on the floor the next day. The desk agent refused to move me again and said I hadn’t been happy since check-in and should just leave. She didn’t apologize and made me out to be the problem. I was also told I wouldn’t get a refund and should speak to a manager in the morning. I believe my ADA and ECA rights have been violated. It was 8:22 p.m., I had no transportation, and they wouldn’t refund me, so I was forced to remain in the unsanitary room until morning. SMH.

I’ve never stayed anywhere worse in my 35 years. When it was time to shower, I found the tub filthy. I hadn’t checked it when I first got into the room, but this place needs much better cleaning. The free breakfast was only waffles, and they were watery. The pool doesn’t open until 11, the same time checkout is, so we couldn’t get back in.
