I used to like staying here when it was called "Clarion," but since the name changed to Quality, the place seems to have gone downhill. I was in Hampton for three days on a family and business trip while relocating. The water was brown one day, then shut off for about three hours the next. Alyssa at the front desk was rude and showed no sympathy when guests asked about it. Housekeeping also missed things in our room and bathroom. There weren't enough linens, so we had to make do with extra hand towels instead of washcloths. The bigger problem was my card, which is linked to my checking account. The hotel charged it more than $500.00 in one transaction after another. The general manager stepped in and fixed it, but I had to wait 5-7 business days for the money to come back. That left me short for expenses related to my move to Hampton. They tried to charge my prepaid card too, and when they checked the system, saw it had already been charged. I'd suggest using a prepaid card and loading only what you're meant to pay. I won't stay there again. This used to be my favorite place, and I really liked it before, but they need to improve and hire better front desk staff and housekeepers if they want to keep getting business.

We never actually stayed at the Clarion, but two problems during booking have made sure we won't. My husband and I are Choice Privileges members and usually spend 35-40 nights a year in hotels. When my husband checked rates on the Clarion site after we booked, the site somehow malfunctioned and canceled his reservation. He had to book again at a higher rate. We planned to travel with a group and wanted to stay together. He called the general manager, Reza Azapour, hoping he'd fix it, but was basically told that if we'd had such a good rate, we should have kept it. We intended to keep the room at the rate we'd secured, and he wouldn't help. Then we were meant to check in on October 18. My husband tried to cancel, but we were less than 24 hours past the deadline. He called the hotel yesterday and was told to speak with the general manager. First thing this morning, he called Mr. Azapour, who again refused to help. He said there was nothing they could do. I know from working in hotels that bookings can be adjusted, and I think he could have helped if he'd wanted to. We didn't have trip insurance, though we've never needed it before and travel quite a bit. I'm disgusted that Mr. Azapour had two chances to help and refused both times. I understand businesses need to make money, but good service matters and can bring in more. His choices make him seem greedy and uncaring, and leave me wondering what else might be cut to save money. That's speculation, but it's a concern. We won't stay here. If you do, I hope you don't run into a problem that needs management.

The room was cramped, with barely enough space to walk around the bed. The listing implied there'd be a sofa, but there wasn't one, just a single chair. Paint was peeling, one bedside table had a missing handle, and the bathroom was tiny too. Our window looked straight onto the roof, cables, and boxes, with a wall at the roof's edge blocking anything beyond. Wi-Fi was advertised, but there was only one bar and we couldn't get online during our stay. The front desk person didn't know how to fix it and suggested looking for a support number in the room. There was no number. We also got only three breakfast vouchers for two people staying two nights, when we needed four. After several tries to explain, we couldn't get through to the desk person. Eventually we were given eight, and returned the unused ones at checkout. The key card usually took several tries to unlock the door. The window unit heating and cooling only seemed to switch on and off during the night, even though we set the nighttime heat to 68, and we kept kicking off the covers. I don't recommend this place. We could have had better accommodations at a much cheaper chain hotel nearby.

I mostly picked this hotel because it said it was pet friendly, though I wasn't sure my 30lb black lab/dachshund mix would be allowed under its size rules. I also had a nearby event to attend, and friends were staying there. Earlier, I'd accidentally booked New Years Day through priceline while trying to book New Years Eve, and missed their short window for changes. When I called the hotel, they weren't much help. At check-in, I asked again about the mistaken reservation. The front-desk girl said she couldn't find anything under my name for another date, while the manager hovered over her shoulder. She said the charge might be refunded once it settled, so I checked in and planned to follow up later. The elevators smelled strongly of marijuana. Our room was freezing, and its door pushed open easily because it was unlocked. The room itself was updated, even for a "cheap" hotel, but the bathroom was too cramped for two people, let alone the four it could supposedly sleep. My boyfriend summed up the hotel, staff, manager, and whole experience with one word: SLEAZY! I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, and wish I'd read the reviews first.
