Welborn Motel

After a really hot day in the car, walking into a clean, cool room was wonderful. Check-in was easy and pleasant, and I had a comfortable stay. The owners seem to be working on improvements, though the bathroom still needs attention because of leaks from upstairs. A bit of paint on the door moldings would help too.

The room was fine, the bed was comfortable, and everything worked. Wifi needed a password, but getting it was no problem and the connection was great. I also appreciated that the manager let me stay with my cats after it became clear there'd been a communication SNAFU with the notes on my reservation, and only charged a pet fee. I was there for three nights, and the manager knew I took the cats with me when I went out during the day. But GOOGLE lists this hotel as pet friendly, and it is NOT. The hotel hadn't received my reservation notes saying I had cats. During my stay, the trash wasn't taken out. I eventually left the bin outside my door, and when I got back it had a new bag but was still sitting there. I never got fresh towels or even a quick vacuum, and the most irritating thing was that they didn't give me a new roll of toilet paper. I don't expect much from a "low rent" hotel, but I do expect those basics. If you need a low rent place in the area, I'd suggest America's Best, which does take care of them. Also, cooking isn't allowed in the rooms, not even with toaster ovens or coffee pots and such. I assume they're concerned about fire hazards, but other hotels seem to allow those things. If staff checked the rooms every day, which they clearly don't, they could look for anything left switched on.

After traveling all day, I arrived the other night to find it was 5 degrees outside. Check-in happens outside at night, and the woman inside where it was warm took her sweet time while I stood in the cold. I was smoking outside, and the smoke went through the little window thing. She gave me my money back because I said there was no sign saying smoking outside wasn't allowed. If this were a normal motel where you didn't have to wait outside in freezing weather while they took their time, I wouldn't have been smoking anyway. Very poorly managed, and I wouldn't recommend this place to a homeless person.

Parking is parallel parking in the rear, and the place needs upgrades. If you're staying here in summer, bring Deep Woods Off. I didn't see roaches, but there were gnats and mosquitoes. The shower was great, though not in good condition, so that's the one reason I'd give it a star. Management also needs to be fluent in English.
