Americas Best Value Inn Hanford

I had a terrible experience at America’s Best Value Inn in Hanford, California. The rooms seemed badly maintained: damaged walls, coolers that didn't work, and bedbugs on the beds. When I tried to get a one-bed room, I was first told the room couldn't be rented because the rooms were messed up. Another employee had just told me I couldn't book because the name on my card didn't match my ID. I moved money and came back, then yet another employee, someone I'd already had a couple of mishaps with, said no rooms were available because they needed maintenance. A few minutes later, I saw another guest get a room for three days without any problem. I've stayed here with help from welfare assistance, which has always paid for my stays. That day I was trying to pay myself because the office was closed. On an earlier occasion, I asked my caseworker for more days. She called on a Friday and said she'd mailed a letter and check to the hotel for my stay. I went to the office and explained that my next 10 days were covered, but they said no email had arrived on their computer. I kept explaining that the letter and check were on the way, but they still wouldn't give me my room. I had to sleep outside over the weekend until Monday, when I went to the welfare office and they finally sent an email. I asked for a refund for the weekend days the welfare office had covered, since I hadn't stayed at the hotel. The older woman at the front desk, who works there with her children, was rude and dismissive. She interrupted me and wouldn't listen, and treated me disrespectfully when I asked for a refund. The place felt unsafe and unsanitary, with poor communication about welfare assistance. I'd strongly recommend avoiding it until the rooms and service improve and guests are treated with respect.

We found the room surprisingly spacious and very clean. It was a non-smoking room with two beds, a TV, coffee maker, mini fridge, and plenty of light. The hair dryer didn't work, and there was no breakfast, which was disappointing. Outside felt a little sketchy because it was so dark, but the stay itself was comfortable. We'd come back if we're in the area.

For $80 a night, everything was about what I expected. The sheets were clean and the AC worked. The door had no weather stripping, and although the listing said there was a pool and breakfast, neither was available. I just needed somewhere to sleep, and it did that fine.

For $85 a night, the place could use a little more maintenance. The shower only worked on the pulse stream setting, and the shower knob fell onto my girlfriend's foot. The TV picture was blurry, the blanket had a hole torn in it, and there was no pool, breakfast, or phone. These seem like easy fixes.
