Harper Motel

There’s a good small-town restaurant right next door, and this motel is clean and basic, about in the “better than camping” category. My room had a mini-fridge, microwave, desk, TV, A/C, double bed, and nightstand. My neighbor said his room didn’t have a nightstand. The bed was comfortable despite the crinkly plastic over the mattress. Bring an extension cord if you want to charge your phone near the bed. Don’t count on shampoo, a bathroom counter, a room key, or housekeeping during your stay. I came back this year because there’s EV charging within a 10-minute walk. Last year was rough: a black widow dropped in front of my face while I was trying to unlock the room, the lock was broken, and the room was 85 degrees when I arrived. There were no bugs this time, and everything at the hotel went smoothly.

Harper Motel keeps a clean place right on main Street in Harper Kansas, and they were honest about my cancellation. I ended up booking somewhere that was more convenient for my sister’s house, but Harper Motel didn’t charge me to cancel. booking.com didn’t charge either after the motel confirmed the cancellation without any extra fee.

We’ve stayed at the Harper Motel three times now and plan to return. It has what we need: a clean room, warmth in winter, cool air in summer, a comfortable bed, plus a small refrigerator and microwave. We just need somewhere to sleep, and this suits us perfectly. Highly recommend it.
