Comfort Inn Harriman

The recent renovations gave the place a whole new look, and it was very clean. Check-in staff barely spoke and weren’t very friendly. The bed was comfortable, which says a lot for me. I’d stay again.

The room looked clean and the outside had good curb appeal, but after a long day traveling I got up at 4:30 a.m. and found a cockroach on the bathroom floor. I killed it, then had trouble getting back to sleep. While packing to leave, I spotted an ant on the desk. I asked the front desk for the manager. A white-haired man said he was the manager. I explained that the room needed spraying and offered to show photos. He said he was sorry, but showed no concern about my lost sleep and offered nothing in compensation. His reaction made it seem normal to him. I was very disappointed and won’t stay at any more of these hotels.

Ms. Patty was wonderful when we checked out early Sunday morning. She was so kind, made eye contact when she spoke, and was sweet with my son. She’s the reason I’d stay here again. Some other parts of our stay lowered the score. A staff member implied I didn’t know how to use a keycard that actually needed reprogramming. My Choice Hotels status should make clear I’m not an imbecile. Also, check the room for the previous guests’ belongings before letting your child in. Very personal items had been left on the bedside table. If the hotel doesn’t get back to me soon, I’ll post photos.

The woman who checked us in was super nice, honestly the only good part of the stay. We arrived late, requested a late checkout, and put up the do not disturb sign, but someone still barged into the room. I’d booked here because the reviews looked good and the price was higher than nearby places. I was trying to avoid roaches and run-down rooms, but this room was just as bad as the negative reviews elsewhere: dirty and dated, with a microwave and switch-operated blinds that didn’t work. It’s overpriced for the same crappy quality as the other places around here. If you want better than average in a sparsely populated area, this isn’t it. The Starbucks in the grocery store down the road makes horrifying coffee, so don’t count on breakfast. Keep driving, and stay away from this town.
