Courtyard by Marriott Harrisonburg

We asked the front desk about the problems in our room and were moved, but the replacement was only marginally better and had the same issues. There were lots of stray hairs on both beds, a strong damp, musty smell, and condensation on the inside of the windows. The bathroom had no fan, and its wallpaper was peeling. The room and hall floors were dirty, with bits of litter and dust balls. Courtyard and Marriott have generally been reliable for me, but this hotel was subpar. I don’t recommend it. Customer service and housekeeping were good, and the room was clean, spacious, and laid out well. The package AC units were impressively quiet. Still, breakfast was essentially nonexistent, with no usual buffet setup, just items you could order from the menu. The pool was out of service, and I won’t stay again until it’s operating. I had a suite, but the couch was so awkward and uncomfortable I could hardly sit on it. The balcony door was stuck, so we couldn’t sit outside. The bed was king-sized in width but about six inches shorter than normal, which was annoying for my tall frame because my feet hung over the end. I’m giving it four stars, with reservations.

There’s food nearby, which was handy, but the room itself was rough for a Marriott. The AC didn’t work, the rooms were noisy, and the popcorn ceiling was unpleasant to look at. The fire alarm went off overnight and took about 30 minutes to fix.

Guest services were very friendly and did the best they could with what they had, and the bed was actually decent. But the halls and bar area were very hot because the air conditioners weren’t working. My room wasn’t cleaned daily as I’d expect at other hotels. The towels were small, smelled, and didn’t seem hotel quality, and there was mold in the showers. This place shouldn’t be a Courtyard. Management seems to be neglecting it, and Courtyard should enforce its standards or pull the franchise so Bonvoy members aren’t paying upscale prices for a cheap hotel based on the name.
