Doubletree by Hilton Harrisonburg

By the time we finally got settled, it was after 9 pm, and my son had to be up at 7 for a ski race. The room change took over an hour because the system was down, after our first-floor room by the pool smelled of chlorine and the kids sounded like they were right in the room with us. We moved to the fourth floor, but the elevators were broken in the morning and stayed that way through checkout. We had to haul all our luggage and ski gear down four flights of stairs.

The room was spacious, clean, and already cooled to a comfortable temperature when I arrived. The bed was comfortable, the shower was hot, and there was a safe and fridge. I was in town for work, and Laurie helped me arrange a larger room through the app before arrival. Check-in through the app was easy too. The pool was closed for maintenance, which was a disappointment since I had packed my trunks, but it wasn’t the end of the world. The hotel is a little older, though that adds some charm, and the rooms have been nicely updated. Service was great, and I’d still give the stay five out of five. We picked DoubleTree Harrisonburg partly for the cookies, though the hotel looked fun too. Thanks to Laurie and everyone for making it a great stay.

A loud noise from the mechanical room carried all the way to the first floor. Staff sent maintenance to investigate, but they weren’t sure what caused it, suggesting it might be the boiler. They said someone would come look, but it wasn’t fixed, and all they could offer me was earplugs. The elevator is broken too. We arrived late and feel more or less stuck here. My son has an audition tomorrow. This hotel shouldn’t be open right now. It’s the worst Hilton I’ve stayed in, and Hilton should be embarrassed to have its name on it.

The room was only okay, and the building is in disrepair. None of the exterior door locks worked with a Digital Key or a physical key, though the main entrance was unlocked. They also charged me a tip without asking on breakfast I took to my room, even though I got the fruit myself, and didn’t apply all my food and beverage credits.
