The Goodwin Hotel

The nearby Starbucks and the valet service were the best parts. Valet parking was excellent and reasonably priced. The room looked nice, but its location at the end of the hall meant looking into a narrow, bare atrium with a skylight and white walls. It felt dark and claustrophobic, even during the day when we needed all the lights on. The air was stuffy, the bathroom fan didn't work, and the shower pressure was weak. We could hear people talking, doors slamming, and TVs through the thin walls. The bed wasn't very comfortable and swayed whenever either of us moved. The floor was sticky, and we had to move the tea kettle to the nightstand to plug it in. I expected more from what seemed like a high-end stay.

I was interested in booking an event with Max as the caterer, but nobody has called me back. The hotel manager gave me a good tour and said she would follow up with availability, but I never heard from her. I've called a few more times since then. The housekeeping manager was very sweet when I spoke with her, but she couldn't help either. Really disappointed.

For a weekend, this hotel worked out pretty well. The rooms and bathrooms were a decent size, and the older building is kept up nicely in a good location. The elevators could be slow, though, and the complimentary breakfast wasn't worth eating. The sheets could've been better too.

I was in town for a conference and stayed a couple of nights. They even found a place to plug in my vehicle after valet parking it, which I appreciated. The room was a decent size, and the amenities were better than I expected for a fairly upscale place. There wasn't much within an easy walk for dinner or drinks. If you're going to an event at the nearby civic center, though, the location should work well.
