Fairfield Inn by Marriott Hartsville

The only part of the night I liked was the very comfortable bed. The hotel felt pretty grimy and uncomfortable overall, and a piece of wall came off when we walked into the room. The location was great, and it might be all right for one night, but I wouldn’t stay longer. We would’ve canceled if we could.

Amanda and Parvini made the stay for me. They were warm, charming, and genuinely helpful, and check-in was smooth from the start. The Fairfield Inn felt spacious and welcoming when I arrived. My king room was large, clean, and cozy, with a roomy bathroom and full tub. The gym had solid equipment, and there’s a pool too, though it was a little cold to use at this time of year. Breakfast was well stocked for a quick meal, and I was glad to find good coffee and oat milk. Everything was at least what I expected from a Fairfield Inn, and often better. It’s handy for local colleges and universities and nearby restaurant staples. I’d recommend it for an overnight, a long weekend, or a family visit.

Amy helped me extend my stay first by a night and then by one more day. When there weren’t any queen rooms left, the clerk with the bow found me a room with a bed and pull-out couch, then walked me over so I could see it before deciding. Everyone I dealt with was kind, cheerful, patient, and quick to help. After a previous hotel where I felt like asking for towels was a bother, it was such a relief to have my needs met right away, with staff reassuring me they were happy to help. Amy welcomed us when we arrived, and the next morning’s clerk was bubbly and helpful as well. The room was clean, had plenty of space and storage, and came with a nice mirror and a roll-out ottoman that worked well for makeup or everyday use. It smelled fresh, and the continental breakfast was great. I could say a lot more, but that’s plenty. Great hotel and service all around. Congrats on the grandbaby, Amy! Being a grandma is the best, and with your sweet nature I know your grand boy will love his new grammy.

The staff were pleasant, but the run-down property made it hard to sleep, and I couldn’t get work done because the internet kept failing. In my room the towel rack had been torn off the bathroom wall, the TV remote was dirty and had hair on it, and the shower caulking was moldy. The bed was uncomfortable, with a plastic liner under the sheets, and the whole room felt disturbing. I can’t say whether the Hampton Inn a block away is any better, but at least it looks better from outside. Maybe try that one if sleep or internet matters to you.
