River Valley Inn

The room had just been renovated, and finding this little place was such a happy surprise. The young man was warm and very accommodating. It’s run by a mom-and-pop team, which made the stay feel especially charming.

After a really stressful day, we were glad to find such a clean, cozy room. The owners were friendly and handled everything quickly and efficiently. The king bed was very comfortable, and we woke up in a much better mood.

We cancelled three full days ahead because my husband couldn’t travel for health reasons, but they still wouldn’t cancel the reservation. The confirmation email clearly said to contact the hotel within two days for a full refund. He said he couldn’t process it because the booking had been made through another site, even though the only email we received came from the hotel. Then he said he planned to charge our card the next day, knowing we couldn’t make the trip. He treated our son the same way too. This hotel is terrible.

The beds were comfortable and the room was adequate, but the bill was a shock. I had asked for two queen beds and wrote down a quote of $150 per night. I was arranging a lot of Northeast reservations, so I can’t be sure I remembered that price correctly. Still, Chris sent a confirmation without any price listed, which made me suspect something was off. I called to check the amount, but nobody answered, and I guessed they recognized my number. Then my card was charged $703. I felt price gouged. At $350 a night, I expected at least a coffee pot. There was a fridge and microwave, but no coffee maker, and the hotel didn’t serve breakfast. Pay close attention when booking, because I felt taken advantage of. The room had two queen beds and an uncomfortable couch. I also had to cover the bathroom blinds with a towel because the window faced the front walkway and the blinds wouldn’t close properly. Chris copied my license and credit card, then dodged my question about it. That made me very nervous.
