Holiday Inn Express Hauppauge-Long Island

The breakfast was excellent, and I really liked having lemon water and cookies in the lobby. The staff were attentive and wonderful, and the room was clean. I'm a germophobe, so I bring my own cleaning supplies. After being discharged from the hospital, I was grateful to have somewhere to stay. We booked through a third party and had asked for extra pillows and towels, which they provided. Watching the highway traffic was surprisingly soothing. I'll come back.

The room had a great view, and breakfast included a good range of options. Parking was free, too. The floor in my room had a lot of stains and didn't seem clean, though. Staff were great, and the spot right by the expressway exit is convenient. Getting to NYC can take 60-90 minutes depending on traffic, and Long Island destinations are still a decent drive. Even with the floor issue, it's a good place for families or friends to stay.

We had a confirmed reservation that we'd paid for, but the hotel gave our room to someone else without checking IDs. When we arrived, they said the room was unavailable and the property was sold out, leaving us with nowhere to stay. The front desk staff and manager were rude and unwilling to help, and the hotel accepted no responsibility. Worse, the manager handed us keys to another guest's room, which raised serious security concerns. We contacted corporate IGH, and although they understood how badly the hotel had messed up, they offered no help. This was the worst hotel experience we've had. I'd never stay at an IGH property again, and anyone concerned about safety should avoid this hotel.

The elevators were eerily slow, and the place felt dated. I also couldn't find an elevator maintenance notice, which made me uneasy. My room wasn't very clean when I arrived, and a dead roach stayed in the bathroom through multiple cleanings. Staff weren't rude, but they seemed unhappy and weren't particularly friendly. Maybe the clientele takes a toll on them. This wasn't what I expected from an IHG hotel after staying five days.
