After a long travel day, my gal and I got a good night's rest at the American Inn. The bed was comfy, the shower stayed warm, and the heater made the room toasty quickly. It was dated, but spacious and clean, and I’d rather pay less for older furniture than extra for a fresh coat of paint. The mini fridge even had a proper freezer with its own door. The front desk guy was nice, and the price was great. I like reviewing cheaper hotels since they can get bad ratings from people looking for a different kind of stay. I just want somewhere affordable that feels clean, safe, and comfortable, and this place checked all those boxes.

The rooms are basic for the price, but clean, with comfortable beds and pillows and an HVAC unit that worked well. There’s no shampoo or conditioner in the shower. The pet fee seemed reasonable, and I appreciated that they accept pets. The spot right off Highway 95 is convenient, with a gas station nearly next door for food and fuel before heading out. I arrived around 1:45 in the morning after seven hours of driving, so maybe being tired affected things. I was assigned room 104, whose doorknob didn’t work properly. The clerk let me in when I first got there, but after I went back to my truck for more things, I couldn’t get back inside. I tried jiggling the knob the way he’d shown me for about five minutes, then asked for help. This time he criticized me for closing the door. I had my cat with me and couldn’t leave it propped open: she knows how to open one, and it’s a security issue too. It was the middle of the night, and I usually try to give people the benefit of the doubt. I hope it was just a tired mistake, especially since other comments mention customer service. Still, getting criticized for shutting a door was one of the strangest things I’ve been called out for.

The room was clean, but the bed had slipped off its foundation and was floppy on one side. The TV was so badly adjusted that we couldn’t watch it, and there was no way to fix it. No coffee maker or Kleenex either, though there was a microwave and fridge. We waited ten minutes for someone to come to the desk at check-in. At checkout, we were told to leave the keys in a basket, so nobody was there to give us a receipt. I won’t stay here again.

BED BUGS AND ROACHES. THEY DON’T CHANGE THE BEDDING AFTER A GUEST LEAVES. DO NOT STAY HERE. There are bed bugs and all kinds of bugs, and they charge $75 a night. My mom told the young guy her room was infested. He sleeps until noon and lets loud parties happen outside at the smoking tables any night of the week. He refused to refund her or move her to a safe room for the nights she’d paid for. He said the “US Army” had booked all the rooms. We checked, and there were four cars there. My mother is EXTREMELY disabled. She has severe pain, rapid weight loss, liver failure, E. coli, and a shattered hip. The bed hadn’t been stripped or cleaned for who knows how long. We found someone else’s SOCK under the sheet, and toilet paper with a chunk of BLONDE hair. Nobody in our family is blonde; we all have dark hair. I think he knew what was in the room. The young man was as rude as possible and can barely speak English. He played dumb much of the time and sleeps until 11 or 12. If checkout is at 10 and we need to talk but you’re asleep, that’s insane business practice and very rude. The housekeeper even said there was no point trying. The worst part was him saying we couldn’t get a refund, change rooms, or even get a discount because my mom probably brought the bugs in and it wasn’t his fault. Yes, my mom got a room so she could bug bomb her house for three days straight. If an owner sees this, contact me immediately. I’m considering legal action. Manager or anyone with any brain cells, please fix this. My mom survives on her disability, and your employee had no problem charging her and accusing her. In a town with four, FOUR hotels, you’d think they could do better.

The staff told me I couldn’t smoke even a cigarette on the property because they want to keep guests happy. I’m a guest too, aren’t I? The rooms were clean, but there was no vending and no smoking.
