Triple Play Resort Hotel & Suites

Update: The manager emailed me, apologized, and did her best to make things right after our poor experience. I’m changing my original two-star rating to three. Thank you, TAMI! The two-bedroom suite itself was nice, but I’m not sure all the beds were queens. They seemed more like full size. Our group of six barely slept because the family in the room above us stomped around all night. We were exhausted and frustrated, so we left around 10 on New Year’s Day even though we’d had no sleep. My kids also told me the housekeeper opened our door at about 9 am. I mentioned it to the front desk when checking out and asked for a manager to call, but nobody did. We paid top dollar for a nice night away with the kids and came home unrested, feeling like our privacy had been invaded.

We’ve stayed at Triple Play more than a dozen times over the past several years, but some problems have become hard to ignore. Parking is difficult on busy weekends, and I’d like to see part of the lot reserved for hotel guests. The hotel could also open the skybridge to TP five minutes earlier so hotel guests have a better chance of reaching the line before people entering at the main entrance get to the cashier. Noise is a major issue. Cabinet and door sounds from the room above can wake you, before you even get to kids running and jumping. Staff should watch the hallways and remind guests about quiet hours and keeping noise down. Our room’s doors barely closed and didn’t fully lock, including the bathroom door, and the kitchenette sink didn’t drain properly. The refurb improved the walls, but not those parts of the room. They also removed the DVD player, one of the nicer amenities. It cost them nothing, but now we pay more and get less. The new satellite TV setup is awful to navigate. Listings are on channel 10 for stations through 28, channel 30 for 30-59, and channel 60 for channels beyond that. You can’t enter 30 or 60 directly, and the channel numbers include options like 12-1, 12-2, and 12-3 that can’t be typed in either. So you’re stuck scrolling. This was the first time I learned the Raptor Reef hot tub was included. The gate was locked all day, though, so please have staff unlock it. It also seems unfair to charge a parent full price just to watch a baby splash in the toddler area, where the water is only about five inches deep. The WiFi worked okay but wasn’t strong enough to send photos by text. We filled out the survey from the hotel’s QR code for a $10 game card and never got one, and the same thing happened several months earlier. Please look into it. I stay here often and don’t have a grudge, but the changes are noticeable. Will we stay less? Probably. Triple Play has reduced staffing and even stopped the annual Christmas letters to Stanley and Roy, which gives us less reason to spend our money here. I hope they address the noise, parking, and amenities.

We visited Triple Play over Christmas, staying from the 24th through the 26th. The staff were so kind and helpful, our room was clean, and the breakfast was fresh with plenty of food. There were lots of free towels for the water park too. We had a blast and will definitely come back.

If all you need is somewhere to sleep, it’s not that bad, but as a resort attached to an expensive family fun center, I expected more modern rooms and better cleanliness. The hotel needs updates, and maybe more staff training or staffing. Our room had no sheet for the pullout bed, trash under the regular bed, hair in the shower, and two spiders in the bathroom. The body wash and shampoo were empty, and the air unit sounded like it was on its last legs. Housekeeping came by on day two, but the trash was still under the bed and the shampoo and body wash were still empty. The continental breakfast was decent, the staff were friendly, and there was only one elevator, though the wait wasn’t too long. There are staircases at each end of the main hall. Hotel guests get deals at the family fun center, and free pool towels, while non-guests have to pay to rent them.
