Best Western Plus Butterfield Inn

The pool area smelled strongly of mold, and there was mold on the grout under the hall windows and on the ceiling above the outside door. Bugs filled all the hanging light fixtures in the lobby. In the bathroom, paint was peeling from the ceiling, and a patch of water-damaged drywall next to the tub should have been replaced before anyone rented the room. The breakfast was decent, and they had an espresso machine, though I was disappointed when it said it needed cleaning. Our room seemed clean enough, and the bed was moderately comfortable. We came expecting to love this place after reading all the positive Google reviews, but it wasn't as good as we'd hoped. It wasn't the worst hotel I've stayed in, and with some work it could be really nice.

The front desk person was very nice, but the room was dirty, with drink splatter on the walls and dust in the corners. The bathroom fan was broken, and the crib they brought us was nasty. We ended up booking somewhere across the street.

It's dog friendly, close to I70, and still quiet, with downtown only a few minutes away. The rooms were clean and breakfast was good, and I'd recommend it as an affordable place to stay in Hays. I'm into history, so I thought Fort Hays Historical Site was a must-see. Even if that's not your thing, it's still interesting.

The second room was fine, but I had to change out of the first one because it didn't look very clean and the bed squeaked. It wasn't the greatest Best Western Plus I've stayed in, though it was okay. I'm a bit picky, so if you aren't, you'll probably be perfectly happy here.
