Days Inn Hays

After driving all night, I stopped here because I could barely keep my eyes open. The room was a 2/10. We were woken by housekeeping knocking at 9 a.m., despite the sign, after already hearing staff shouting at each other outside the rooms. Our keys quit working before checkout, too. At the desk, the employee was in the back with loud music playing and ignored the people waiting. When someone rang the bell, they turned the music up and still didn’t come out. I’ve stayed at other places nearby, and every one was a much better experience than this dump.

We had three rooms just before Thanksgiving, and every bathroom had mold and someone else’s hair everywhere. One was so bad our kids refused to shower there and used our room instead. Two showers didn’t work properly, though they were usable, and some beds had hair on them too. Breakfast was limited but passable. The drink machine and coffee machine were broken, and one worker took all the eggs and the remaining coffee for themselves. The other said they couldn’t make more, even though it was only 7:30 a.m. We were also overcharged, so I’m disputing it with my credit card. I called the motel and was promised a callback, but it never came. We pass through often and won’t stay again. Trying to save $20 instead of booking the Sleep Inn like usual was a mistake.

Breakfast sent us elsewhere. The coffee, eggs, sausage, gravy, and biscuits were all barely warm, and there was no juice, yogurt, or fresh fruit. The room itself was very nice and clean. They let my pup stay for a fee and gave us a room with an easy step outside, so his 16-year-old legs didn’t have far to go.

After being out all day, I came back to a room that hadn’t been cleaned or made up. The tub might just be old, but it looked filthy. The staff showed little interest in my concerns, and there were only five or six guests, so it didn’t seem like they were too busy. Earlier, I had no hot water and got no discount. The front desk said they were working on it, then later replied, “there should be - I think so!” when I asked if it was back. The price was the same as other hotels, so I picked badly. Very annoying and bizarre. Avoid, avoid, avoid.
