Mac's Motel

The manager wasn't in the office when I arrived. Inside, there were holes in the walls, cracking drywall, and what looked like pine repairs. There was smoke on the walls, no fire alarm, and a bathroom faucet that kept running. The bathroom had no vent fan, and its window opened onto a fast food drive-through.

The rooms were terrible, and I believe they took money from me. This happened a few years ago, when I stayed for one night. I gave my card number over the phone to make the reservation, but their system was offline when I arrived, so I paid cash. A couple of months later, charges from them started appearing on my statement. My credit card company said it couldn't verify fraud because the card number had been entered manually. The amounts didn't add up either. Even their “best” room couldn't have cost that much for a week. Don't give them your information or your business.

The only things that worked well were the hot water and heater. The bed was awful, with springs you could feel through a thin sheet and an equally thin blanket, and there wasn't even a garbage can in the room. The Google photos made the place look much warmer and cozier than it was. It was quiet in the parking lot, with maybe three other cars on Saturday, but they put us in room 15 right next to someone in 16 who screamed at his wife or girlfriend all night. We were too exhausted to call the police, though we probably should have. With paper-thin walls and so few guests, why put people right beside each other? I emailed the person who sent the confirmation, Drew?, asking about a partial refund for this misleading stay, but he never replied. This place was horrible. Spend the extra $20 for a better motel down the road.

We were in town for the skijoring competition and didn't expect anything luxurious. The owner and the gentleman helping him run the place still went out of their way to make us feel welcome. Renovations were underway, but we didn't mind since they really seem to be bringing the motel back to life. We felt safe, the room was clean, and the bed was very comfortable, so we slept great. There's plenty left to update, but it was still a lovely stay, and I can see it becoming a cozy little motel. If you want somewhere affordable, this is a good option.
