Parking was the trickiest part of my two-night stay. Because it was Memorial Day weekend, the nearby lot was closed off for a stage and seating. That lot normally has a 12-hour limit, while nearby street parking allows 24 hours but is hard to find. I got lucky at 1331 Manhattan Ave, where the lot was about $30 a day. The room had four beds but only three small lockers, though I managed. The bathroom and showers were decent, but a couple of doors were difficult to shut and lock. I slept comfortably, and the ocean-view side may be quieter since it’s away from the live music bar. Still, I heard some alley noise at night, including drunk people, plus a delivery truck at 5 a.m. I’d expected some noise from the reviews, and free earplugs were available by reception. The kitchen was great for breakfast, with pancake mix, toast, eggs, butter, peanut butter, chocolate chips, and coffee. There was a longboard, penny board, and boogie boards in the rec room to use for free, plus inexpensive surfboard rentals. Staff were friendly and helpful.

The hostel feels small and welcoming, and it’s easy to meet interesting people there. Hermosa Beach has a cute, authentic downtown, with the beach right outside the door. The rooms have big windows for the sea breeze, and some let you see the ocean from bed. I have sensitive allergies and had no trouble staying here. It really does feel like visiting family who live by the beach. The staff are fun and personable, and they put on activities like beach meditations, nearby comedy shows, and house music night across the street.

Jess, one of the managers, invites people to try stand-up comedy on Thursdays, and I gave it a go. It was fun. They also cooked hot dogs for us one Saturday and handed out drink tickets for a nearby bar on Sunday. There are activities like that, plus a free breakfast and separate rooms for hanging out and eating. The bathrooms stayed clean, the beds were comfortable, and the beach is close by. Cool place!

The atmosphere was really pleasant, and breakfast was very good. The rooms were lovely for the price, with beautiful views. Staff were kind, polite, and friendly throughout. We had a fantastic stay, 10/10. ❤️

It’s a lively entertainment area, so there can be more noise than some people want. I didn’t mind it, and being near all that energy was exciting. The beach is just a minute’s walk away, with the water another minute beyond that, and the area felt very safe. The kitchen and dining room had exactly the hostel social feel I enjoy. We spent hours talking around the table, like college or family holidays. Staff were fantastic and helpful, and the self-serve breakfast let you make things your own way. There was pancake batter and toppings, eggs, and fruit, and cleaning up after yourself is just part of sharing common spaces. If you want a maid, pay ten times more for a stuffy luxury hotel. Stay here to meet people from around the country and world. The Aussies were a hoot. I loved my weekend at ITH Hermosa Hostel and would give it more than five stars if I could. A positive, unforgettable stay.
