Apple Orchard Inn

That chicken coop was such a fun touch, and the fireplace and bed made it easy to get cozy. The Hosts are so sweet, and I loved being able to buy baked goods to take home. Only letdown? We didn’t get snowed in, so we had to head back to reality.

I don’t usually write reviews, and I try to keep them positive even after a bad experience. I run a business too, so I know things can go wrong. Still, tonight’s situation needs to be shared. I booked Apple Orchard Inn early this morning for a quick trip to Durango with my son. Since it looked like a small boutique-style inn, I called several hours before we arrived to ask about check-in. Nobody picked up or called me back. Then, late in the evening, a text came from a completely different number, just minutes before we got there. We’d driven 10 miles out of our way and arrived around 7:30 PM, only to be told in person that children aren’t allowed. I was completely blindsided. If that’s the policy, fine, but I couldn’t find it on any of the major booking sites. The staff member was curt and said it was listed on their own website. If someone books through Priceline or Expedia, why would they think to check a separate site for a rule that isn’t disclosed there? They said they’d refund the money, so this isn’t about the cost. But at 7:30 PM on a Friday, I was left with my little boy, nowhere to stay, and a trailer to tow back over Million Dollar Highway in the dark. I’m worried about safety, and the lack of decency and understanding made things worse. The staff member also refused to call Priceline, leaving me to spend more time sorting out the refund myself. What was meant to be a fun father-son adventure turned stressful and unsafe because of poor communication, misleading information, and no empathy.

We only had one night in the cottage, and were already wishing we could stay longer. The bathroom and bed were great, and the breakfast was one of the best meals of our whole trip. There was a bit of distant traffic noise, but it didn’t bother us. We can’t wait for a reason to come back to Colorado and stay here again. It felt like a little slice of heaven.

Just outside Durango, this little place is quiet and really well kept. The owners were friendly and accommodating, and had great knowledge of the area. We loved the delicious breakfast too.
